Happy Halloween one and all. It should be a fun day for the Wildwood DeVries. It started with friend Ari and Kat (the neighbor girls) coming over for breakfast and play (still no school today) and Timmy's friend Calvin was here too as his mom Cherith was over for worship team practice. I think I'll head out to cut a bit more wood in an hour or so, and then around 2 we'll be heading down to Casparis for the night, including trick or treating around their neighborhood. The weather is also great ... in the mid to upper 60s, so that will be really nice.

Snow ... the proof.
Here's the proof we did get some snow. I don't believe you'll get this via email, so if you want to see it, you'll have to go to the web site (wildwooddevries.blogspot.com).
More Fall Pix!
I think these ended up kind of randomly ordered, but they're still fun!
Here's Timmy dressed up as Lightning Guy at his friend Joseph's birthday party.

This ones after Emma and I arrived at the party ... food!
Here's Emma and I working on the craft at Home Depot.

Cyndie posing with some of her clothes in the basement after the ladies clothes exchange night.

Here's a two picture sequence of Timmy and his teacher (and a friend of ours) Miss Andrea. She's helping him practice a back flip.

Here's a couple of pictures that Cyndie and Timmy took at the local par

Trick-or-treating ... who is that masked man?

This is at Emma's class party ... Emma is reaching into the brains and eyeballs ... apparently that one was a big hit!

Here's scarecrow Timmy posing in front of his school.

So there you have it, a roundup of pictures from the last week or two.

Bowling, Scarecrows and Playdates ... oh my!
Thursday morning in the DeVries household, and it's a weird day. Since Emma is not at school today, we kind of started the day a bit slower than normal (Timmy doesn't have to leave for school until around 8:45, where as Emma needs to get out of the house around 7:45 to catch the bus). Timmy had his scarecrow party ... pix to follow, and then Cyndie dropped Emma off at her friend Olivia's house for a play date while I had worship team practice.
Anyway, by noon we were back to normal with lunch and then Cyndie, Timmy, and I worked outside a bit cutting up dead trees.
Last night was night two of bowling for the Ham Fighters. Fun was had by all, but I stayed up way too late!

Wednesday Night Bloggin'
So, not a whole lot new going on around here. I went in to Waukesha for a half day this morning and worked the rest of the day at home. Emma had her last day of school for the week today (teacher inservice or something the rest of the week). Cyndie went in to help with her Fall Festival or whatever they called their Halloween party. Grandpa D came over to hang out with Timmy for an hour or so between when Cyndie left to help and I got home. We worked in the yard a bit cleaning up a tree that fell down and cutting a couple of others down too. We'll probably spend several afternoons over the next couple of weekends working a bit more on that.
Last night when Cyndie and I were in the jacuzzi, we were watching the stars. They were beautiful as it was a clear and moonless night. As Cyndie pointed out, the stars went all the way down to the horizon. Anyway, as we're sitting there, we saw a really awesome shooting star. It must have "shot" for 2 or 3 seconds because we both saw it and exclaimed while it was still shooting. It was very cool.
So that's about it. I'm working on keeping myself awake before I head out to bowling in another 45 minutes or so, but otherwise, it's just another weekday evening.

You've Been Boo-d
I figured I should make a separate post for this one ...
Another big excitement over the weekend was the occurrence of several "Boo"-ings at the Wildwood DeVries. This is an event where you fill a bag with goodies, then go to someone's house around dusk, leave the bag on their porch, ring the doorbell crazily, and then run like the wind. Needless to say, the kids LOVED doing that. The idea is that when you get boo-d, you then have to boo two other people.
So Thursday night Cole and Olivia down the street boo-d Emma and Tim. So Saturday we passed the boo along to Kat and Ari next door and Lukas and Anja from church. Then we got boo-d again that night, and on Monday night boo-d Olivia from Emma's school (and her brother Smith), and Timmy's friend Calvin from church (and his baby sister Nora). Emma was by far the more dexterious boo-er. She was light on her feet and swift with her running. Timmy on the other hand, in his excitement, tended to trip over his own feet, and have trouble getting into the car and getting the door closed quickly. It made for lots of laughing and hilarity. The most fun was at Olivia and Smith's house because we had to park right in front and they were all kind of sitting in the big picture window right by the front door. So the doorbell was rung, and Emma got away pretty cleanly, but Timmy was a bit slow, and then I managed to stall the get away car! It was rather funny. Emma claimed the whole way home that she got away clean and that we were only "half caught". It was funny!

Snow is in the Air
Yes, you read that correctly ... it snowed yesterday. As Cyndie and I were sitting in our art class the group looked up and there, swirling down from the sky like leaves from a tree, were some nice fluffy flakes.*
*I'll take a little literary license there ... the initial batch of flakes were a bit heavier, wetter. They came more down like hail or rain. However, after a brief interlude, the flakes did come back in a much flakier version.
So aside from experiencing some snow, it's been a pretty normal weekend and early part of the week. Our big day was Sunday during which we had church in the morning, then after Sunday School (which gets over around 11:15) we rushed home, had a quick lunch, grabbed costumes, and headed back to town for some Halloween related events*.
*Apparently the local cities and townships all choose a day to do their Halloween activities. LG's is always the Sunday before Halloween, which is actually really a family friendly way to do it as it allows the Trick-or-Treating to happen in the afternoon, in the light, with more energetic kids. The concept gets an A+ rating from this parent!
So Emma and I headed to the Lake Geneva Museum to go to a Halloween parade and make use of their free admission. It was actually a pretty nice little museum. It had rooms set up as lots different settings from turn of the century (as in 100+ years ago) Lake Geneva. There was a farm, a post office, a general store, some outdoor stuff, a fire department, a war room, and then the different rooms of a house. It was pretty interesting. Emma is really interested by historical stuff like that too (and museums in general), so she had a really good time walking through all the rooms. After that, Emma and I walked all through downtown LG Trick-or-Treating. 75% or so of the shops were open for trick-or-treating, so Emma made a pretty darn good haul, and we had to walk a lot less than we would have done in a neighborhood, even getting out of the wind and cold frequently. And man, was it windy (and cold). Whew. Emma really didn't want to wear her gloves (so that she could more easily choose her candies I think), but ended up with really wind burned, chapped hands. Ouch!
After that we walked over to the Y where Timmy's friend Joseph was having a birthday party. Timmy had had a good time there playing with most of his friends from pre-school. After the party wrapped up, we trick-or-treated around in old town Lake Geneva a bit and then headed over to Grandma and Grandpa's to trick-or-treat, and hang out a bit. They came over to our place for dinner, with Timmy just about falling asleep in his plate of roast and mashed potatos ... he was pooped!
Now we're into the week. Emma has Thursday and Friday off for teacher training or some such thing, so it feels like a vacation week even though I'm working the whole week. The kids both have Halloween (actually "Harvest" I think) parties of some nature this week, and Timmy also starts up with swimming lessings. Then Friday we're going down to Crystal Lake to Trick-or-Treat with the Casparis and stay the night.
