Dogs ... nearing a decision?!

So, we're moving forward on the dog search. We were pretty sure that we were going to get the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. We liked the size of the dog (small enough for sitting on the couch with you, but big enough to run around in the yard), the look, the temperment. We went so far as to visit a breeder on the way back from the UP. The dogs and pups sure are cute! They were very friendly, obedient, the kids loved them, and my navy tank top was covered with hair when I got up after holding/petting the adult dog we were with! The cavalier was out the door! We had thought that this wouldn't be as big a deal what with the size (much smaller than Albert) and type of fur (longer fur that needs to be groomed often), but no dice. And in the end, we decided that that was a deal breaker.

So the search continued. All the things about the Cavalier were good, but we also wanted it to be a low shed dog. So we did more research. We were pretty hesitant about the Terriers ... legend has it that they are fairly highly strung and need a pretty dominant and consistent hand to keep them in order. We're not sure we're up to that. In the end we've narrowed the search down to a Miniature Schnauzer.

They have all the traits we liked of the Cavalier, with the added bonus of being very low shed and good for allergy sufferers. They are terriers, but tend to be less highly strung than many of that group.

So now we're working to try to find the right breeder who has puppies! More updates as they become available.
