Family Night
As I may or may not have written before, we're trying to have a weekly family night where we make pizza together, and then play games (or occasionally watch a movie). That's been either Monday or Tuesday night, depending upon what's going on that week. Well, yesterday was family night, so we decided to make our pizza and take it out on the boat! It was a lot of fun. The temperature was great, in the high 70s. The wind was whipping ... probably 20 - 30 miles per hour. Putting in the boat was no problem, be we immediately realized when we started motoring away that those white caps we were seeing on the lake where the top of 2 - 3+ foot waves. Now we know why friends have told us that you don't want to be out on the lake in a small boat (apparently ours exceeds the limit to be know as "small"). Anyway, we found a place in Williams Bay (where we launch) that was sheltered a bit by a finger of land, and anchored there to eat and fish a little. Then we decided to be adventurous and go across the lake. It wasn't actually too bad, but we did get air at least once! The other side (south side) wasn't anywhere near as rough as the waves over there had not traveled the width of the lake, building up steam. We cruised along the shore for a bit there, then decided to fish again. Timmy had not fished since last year (his first time fishing), so he needed a bit of a reminder. In describing how to cast (and specifically, how to use the button on the fishing rod) I believe I used the words "push and then let go". Well, let go he did ... of his pole ... which promptly flew into the water. We were unable to recover the pole, so we'll have to get another mini-pole at Wal-Mart! Pepper accompanied us on our outing and was not a fan. He spent most of the trip huddled in a corner as close to Cyndie as he could get. I think we'll wait until a nice calm day to try him again. When we were putting the boat on the trailer we helped out a couple of older gentlemen who were trailering their small sail boat. They told us that they left at 10:30 in the morning and had been trying to get back to the boat ramp for the last six hours! Crazy!
